To make crate training as successful as possible, our pens are set up with:
- A crate: most of the time, we use wire crates, as our puppies seem to prefer the more "open" feeling rather than darker plastic kennels. (Some puppies might be the opposite, and prefer a darker, cozier kennel. I recommend having one of each just in case.) - 24" tall pen: this surrounds the crate and gives the puppy a bit more room while still keeping them safely contained. - Puppy pads: while you can take your puppy outside during the night if you desire, I have found it is much more simple and is easier for both you and the puppy to get back to sleep if the crate door is left open, and a puppy pad is placed in the x-pen. This way, the puppy can simply step outside of the kennel, pee, and go back to sleep.
