***Picture coming soon.***

We have a young miniature Poodle looking for her forever home. We did not breed her, but are helping her find her forever family. She has some specific needs and can be very fearful of new people, as she had very little exposure or socialization as a puppy. She needs a very patient and experienced home that is able to manage her quirks and fears.

We were originally asking $1500 to cover our costs and time, but given her unique needs, the price is very negotiable for the right home.

The good stuff:
1. She gets along well with other dogs and especially loves to play the chase game with them. (She also loves cats, but would probably do best in a home without any - she loves them a bit too much and can be a bit of a pest.)

2. She is very intelligent and loves learning new tricks. She would be a great partner for trick training or canine freestyle, although she may not be comfortable enough to attend performance events.

3. She is a great eater, and very food motivated. We have not identified any food allergies or sensitivities.

4. She is in great health and is up to date on all vaccinations and vet work. Her teeth are in good shape, patellas are solid, and she does not seem prone to ear infections.

5. She is a silly dog and bonds closely to her people. She is full of beans, butt wiggles, and zoomies. She loves to play (although she hasn't quite figured out what toys are all about). She seems to prefer tug games over fetch/retrieving.

6. She does decently when crated. She sleeps in a crate at night, and is crated when I go to work or leave the house. She sometimes makes a fuss (barking/howling) for a few minutes at first, but settles down quickly - most of the time. This said, I wouldn't recommend her for apartment living, just to be on the safe side.

7. She loves walks and running in big, open fields. I know she would love a big fenced yard and preferably another dog to play with.

The "quirks":
1. She is very fearful of anyone outside of her immediate person/household. She becomes very reactive to them, will bark a lot, and bolt to get away. She is a dog who needs to have her space respected, and to have an owner who will enforce giving her space to ensure she is comfortable and never forced to interact with strangers, as that scares her. This means no petting or taking treats from strangers, etc. It will not work with her and makes her even more fearful of them. She needs to be taught that her space will be respected in order to soothe her reactivity, and she feels safest when strangers ignore her and allow her that autonomy and space.

2. Housetraining is better than it was, but she still needs work. She would benefit from being taught to ring bells to communicate when she needs to go outside.

3. She is crated at night since she is still working on housetraining, and because she will pee on the bed. I would not recommend letting her up on the bed at all until housetraining is 100% solid and figured out. She seems fine on couches and has never had an accident on one.

4. She is a bit nervous for car rides, but is doing better.

The ideal home would have the following:
1.  Fully fenced yard
2. Another dog in the household to provide some confidence and guidance for her. Preferably a dog who would enjoy chasing her around the yard, as she enjoys that a lot.
3. A home-owner (not suitable for apartment living)
4. Experience in training to help her build her confidence
5. A quiet atmosphere, with either few in-home visitors, or a safe place for her to stay/be crated/self soothe while there are any guests around.
6. Older couple or a single person. She warms up to children much faster than adults, but their noise and sudden movements can still be overwhelming for her.
7. Hardwood floors, or something equivalent, while she is being fully housetrained.
8. Someone who can groom her from home would be ideal, for her comfort. Alternatives may include 1) making sure she has anti-anxiety meds for groomer or vet visits, or 2) someone local to me so that I can do her grooming, as she knows me well. I am happy to provide discounted grooming services.
